About The Position

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is seeking to hire an Accountant Advanced. The successful candidate, under the direction of the Accountant Supervisor, performs complex accounting and auditing functions for the department utilizing the contract payment system, a payment system for approximately 3,000 active contracts with payments totaling over $2 billion annually, the agency’s accounting system and the Comptroller’s system.

Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting.
Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control, or public accounting.

Responsibilities

Independently completes professional audit and evaluation of approximately 12,000 contract change orders annually.
Audits renewal agreements conducting a thorough analysis of complex procurement agreements covering a broad spectrum of both technological and financial aspects including costs for construction and maintenance executed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and contractors.
Develops, implements, controls, and revises accounting procedures.
Distributes change orders to districts, Project Review Engineers, bureau files, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Distributes reports for the Accountant Supervisor.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
