About The Position

A person in this position is responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing applications for new membership accounts. Effectively on-boards all members to the credit union by explaining new account policies and products. Performs maintenance on member accounts as needed, including the addition of specialty accounts. Communicates general credit union information and cross-sells services. Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations as well as company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must complete and maintain all training required to obtain State of Nevada Notary.
  • Knowledge of basic credit union account services, policies, and procedures.
  • Understanding of related legal and regulatory standards.
  • One (1) year prior customer service experience required.
  • Must have the ability to be courteous and professional through effective communication.
  • Must maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Must understand basic operation of computer and other office equipment.
  • Must have effective time management skills, as well as strong analytical and financial skills
  • Must possess the ability to communicate in English.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend business communications.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively utilizing all standard forms of business communication.
  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift at least ten (10) pounds individually, or twenty (20) pounds using a team lift.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment while carrying out basic instruction.
  • Must be able to effectively resolve minor to moderate member related issues without supervision after appropriate training.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills and use decimals to compute ratios and percentages as applicable.
  • Has the ability to count cash and balance a cash drawer correctly as needed.
  • Employees are expected to communicate effectively and professionally with members and staff.
  • English will be used when communicating with members, co-workers and other business affiliates who speak only English.
  • All task directions and work directives will be provided in English.
  • Employees engaged in team-related work efforts or project teams will be expected to communicate in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months experience as a teller for a full-service financial institution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the new member qualifies for field of membership.
  • Open new personal and business accounts. Obtain and maintain all required documents.
  • Add and/or remove joint owners, authorized signers, and beneficiaries from personal and business accounts.
  • Add and/or remove share and share draft types from personal and business accounts.
  • Add electronic services to accounts when requested. Resolve electronic service problems immediately.
  • Generates ChexSystems and OFAC reports for all new members. Follows ChexSystem procedure to assess eligibility for membership.
  • Informs business accounts of merchant services.
  • Properly close accounts.
  • Open and maintain share certificates.
  • Ensures that new account operations are conducted in accordance with established credit union policies and regulations.
  • Ensures that account documentation is properly recorded and scanned as required by the new account checklist.
  • Opens Roth, Traditional, Simplified Employer Plan and Coverdell Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA). Provides member with required disclosure and processes account documentation.
  • Conducts deposits, withdrawals, rollovers, transfers, and closures of IRAs in Ascensus and Portico. Completes proper paperwork related to specific transaction.
  • Answers IRA questions using available resources.
  • Represents the credit union in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Receives share deposits and loan payments.
  • Processes cash advances, cashiers' checks, and outgoing wires requests.
  • Disburses cash or check share withdrawals.
  • Processes transfers.
  • Verifies transactions. Monitors deposit amounts and examines documents for endorsement and negotiability. Detects and resolves discrepancies promptly.
  • Balances daily transactions and verifies cash totals. Investigates and resolves out-of-balance.
  • Ensures proper documents are completed accurately and proper signatures are captured for renting a safe deposit box.
  • Provides the member with a sealed envelopes containing two safe deposit box keys.
  • Collects annual rental payments.
  • Assigns the safe deposit box to the members account in Portico. Creates a transfer file for future annual rental payments.
  • Displays a professional and groomed appearance as outlined in the dress code policy.
  • Greets members cordially and professionally in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Performs member transactions and problem resolution promptly and effectively.
  • Returns member and co-worker messages, phone calls, emails, etc. within the same business day when appropriate.
  • Helps members balance their checking accounts, troubleshoot debit card issues, resolve home banking issues, counsels’ members regarding money management and financial matters.
  • After appropriate training, understands the credit union movement.
  • Ensures that the Credit Union's quality and professional reputation is projected and maintained.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of area activities; reports suspicious or concerning activity as required.
  • Works collectively with the team to accomplish credit union initiatives.
  • Encouraged to participate in fundraising and team building actives as time allows.
  • Resolves minor conflict professionally and promptly.
  • Refers members to other departments as prescribed ensuring adequate communication between.
  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Performs clerical and other related duties as required.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and training as required.
  • Assists area personnel as well as other department personnel when necessary and appropriate.
  • Provides quality assurance support for lending as required.
  • Notarizes legal documents for members and non-members.
