About The Position

Account Executives are responsible for the sales and development of advertising campaigns for events, businesses, and organizations. This role is responsible for identifying the right advertising opportunities across The Denver Post’s print and digital product suite - including the Programmatic product suite, in addition to our offerings in Search, Email, and Social; understanding the potential within a defined territory or target category; increasing customer lifetime value; and strategically building out a prospect pipeline through independent prospecting methods. This role is responsible for new business acquisition, in addition to current client retention and upsells. We offer a robust print and digital suite of products and services to meet clients' full-funnel marketing objectives. Every client is different, and we don’t believe in a cookie-cutter approach to their advertising needs.

Requirements

  • Professional, outgoing, and friendly demeanor
  • Digital sales acumen and media industry knowledge
  • A background in consultative sales, new business acquisition, diagnosing client needs, presentations, overcoming objections, closing, time management, client retention, and problem-solving
  • Track record of success in online media sales, with direct experience selling ad serving, rich media, email, online media, or technology
  • Applicable sales experience in SEM sales, with proficiency in the concepts and methodology of SEM campaign execution; programmatic RTB sales, with proficiency in the concepts and methodology of RTB/Programmatic campaign execution; and the ability to develop and articulate strategies around a custom campaign
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
  • Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours

Responsibilities

  • Work independently, making sound business decisions related to achieving revenue goals while communicating with your Director each day to discuss strategy and other key issues
  • Strategically prospect for new accounts, conduct needs assessments to determine customer needs, generate ideas and proposals, present recommendations, close the sale, and set client expectations
  • Own the entire sales and retention cycle for each campaign, working in conjunction with the assigned digital strategist, client services, and the ad operations team
  • Meet with individual clients at appropriate frequencies (monthly, quarterly, etc.) to review campaign progress, budgets, and create new strategies
  • Complete post-sale paperwork, including detailed insertion order instructions, which requires a strong command of the product and basic internet techniques
  • Monitor other media to identify opportunities to increase market share and attend local or category business events for networking opportunities; stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments
  • Excel in a highly competitive environment and adapt to a rapidly evolving media landscape
  • Adapt sales techniques and presentations to connect with potential clients
  • Use analytical skills to create data-driven summary reports on campaign performance
  • Negotiate deals, accurately forecast sales, and set personal goals to drive success
