About The Position

The Accessioning Clerk works in the laboratory at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, in a high-paced environment. The role answers the pneumatic tube station, receives specimens from the emergency department and other locations, prioritizes specimens such as stat, routine, stroke, and sepsis, and delivers them to the automated line or manual bench for testing. The clerk obtains and/or processes specimens using appropriate techniques to preserve specimen integrity and patient identification. The role verifies that specimens are appropriate for requested tests and completes accessioning in the computer system. It also confirms patient records according to departmental guidelines and corrects them as needed. This is a 40-hour full-time day-shift position, scheduled 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with every-other-weekend and holiday rotation. Applicants are asked to attach a resume.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Laboratory experience, with specimen processing preferred, or clinical office experience with medical terminology.
