About The Position
The Accessioning Clerk works in the laboratory at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut. In a high-pace environment, the clerk receives specimens from the emergency department and other locations, prioritizes them, and delivers them to the automated line or manual laboratory bench for testing. The role also involves processing specimens, verifying that received specimens are appropriate for requested tests, completing accessioning in the computer system, and confirming and correcting patient records according to departmental guidelines.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Laboratory experience, preferably in specimen processing, or clinical office experience with medical terminology.

Responsibilities
- Answer the pneumatic tube station.
- Receive specimens from the emergency department and other locations.
- Prioritize specimens, including stat, routine, stroke, and sepsis specimens.
- Deliver specimens for testing to the automated line or a manual bench within the laboratory.
- Obtain and/or process specimens using appropriate techniques to maintain specimen integrity and patient identification.
- Verify that the appropriate specimen has been received for the requested test.
- Perform accessioning in the computer system.
- Confirm patient records using departmental guidelines and correct them as necessary.
