About The Position

Fletcher Technical Community College is seeking an Academic Support Specialist for the Library department within Academic Affairs & Initiatives. This unclassified administrative/staff position involves managing library operations, assisting students with academic needs, supporting library programming, and performing general administrative duties. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to fostering a culture of mutual respect and inclusivity.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.
  • Run the library circulation desk, including checking materials in and out, assisting patrons with locating materials, answering the phone, troubleshooting technology issues, and monitoring chat help.
  • Assist with coordinating and proctoring various tests and serve as a backup testing proctor.
  • Assist students needing special accommodations, such as reading assistance, scribing support, or facilitating a customized testing environment.
  • Assist with library programming.
  • Maintain archival scrapbooks.
  • Assist library staff to maintain the serials collection.
  • Assist with training student workers.
  • Perform general cleaning and organizing.
  • Assist Director of Library Services & Academic Support with collection development needs.
  • Recommend updates to policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Support academic support areas including tutoring and testing with administrative duties.
  • Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co-workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and utilize appropriate channels of communication within the college community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled activities, which include graduation, open house/recruiting events as assigned, convocation, and required meetings.
  • Share ideas and information, and work toward common department and College goals.
  • Serve on college committees as a member or as chair.
  • Serve on search committees.
  • Participate in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness (convocation, LCTC conference, etc.).
  • Represent the college in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.
  • Adhere to College and LCTC policies.
  • Embrace college culture.
  • Complete all required trainings prior to deadlines (Fletcher, LCTC, etc.).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
