The Marine Engineering Technology Department (MARE) in the College of Marine Sciences & Maritime Studies at Texas A&M University located on the Galveston Campus invites applications for up to 5 full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) and/or part-time Temporary/Part-Time (Non-Tenure) positions. These positions can be at various ranks including (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Professor, (Visiting) Assistant Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Associate Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Professor of the Practice, (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, or (Visiting) Principal Lecturer. The specific title and rank will depend on the applicant's background, qualifications, and experience. Appointments are for a 4.5-month or 9-month academic term, with a possibility of an additional summer appointment based on need and funding. The positions begin in fall 2026 or spring 2027. Successful applicants will be responsible for organizing, delivering, evaluating, and assessing courses in areas such as marine, electrical, or mechanical engineering, auxiliary systems, propulsion (diesel/steam/gas turbine), green and sustainable shipping, offshore engineering, decarbonization, naval architecture, shipbuilding, blue energy, and marine alternative fuels. They will also be responsible for student outcomes and assessments related to these courses. Additionally, successful applicants will advise and mentor students, participate in departmental activities including outreach, and serve the profession. Academic Professional Track (APT) faculty are integral to the College of Marine Sciences and Maritime Studies, working under nine-month contracts with potential for renewal based on teaching effectiveness and service. Multi-year appointments are possible after promotion, and a promotion ladder exists for those focused on teaching careers. The program aims to produce graduates with strong engineering fundamentals, mathematics, and analytical skills, enhanced by practical experience in machine shops, welding, and laboratories, including work on a training ship. The curriculum covers essential engineering topics like fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, drafting, and materials science to foster interdisciplinary skills for marine engineering practice.
