Academic Coordinator/Advisor | School of Design and Construction
About The Position
The School of Design and Construction (SDC) is seeking an Academic Coordinator/Advisor to manage academic coordination and advising for prospective and current undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program. Responsibilities include analyzing applications for certification, assessing academic levels, responding to academic inquiries, developing individual academic plans, educating students on academic planning and university requirements, exploring career options, counseling non-students about potential admission, providing academic planning advice for prospective transfer students, and supporting admission to the major processes. The role also involves program development for academic advising, coordinating student advising workshops and campus visits, supporting recruitment and retention activities, assisting with procedure development, and contributing to program data collection and assessment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time academic advising experience at a college or university or related education/experience.
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience with computer software and programs, specifically the Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn new software and programs quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work evening or weekend hours as necessary for recruitment activities.
- Experience with academic advising and related issues.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver engaging and informative presentations to students and parents.
Nice To Haves
- Demonstrated experience creating database queries and generating reports.
- Understanding of, and ability to apply, WSU policies and procedures as related to student records and degree program requirements.
- Knowledge of university computing systems such as the myWSU Advising Module and Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) as well as Slate.
- Previous work experience at an institution of higher education.
- Experience with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
- Master’s degree in related field and more than 2 years of full-time experience with academic advising.
Responsibilities
- Academic coordination and advising for prospective and current undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program.

- Providing support for processes associated with admission to the major.
- Participating in program development for academic advising.
- Coordinating student advising workshops and campus visits.
- Providing coordination and support for recruitment and retention activities.
- Assisting with the development of unit procedures and methodologies.
- Contributing to the management of program data collection and assessment activities.
