About The Position

Performs a variety of working level technical duties involving the use of communications equipment to gather and record necessary information, and to dispatch police, fire and emergency personnel in response to emergency and assistance calls for service. This is a full-time position with irregular work hours and schedules, including daytime and nighttime hours, weekends, and holidays. Adjustment of work hours, adjustment or cancellation of breaks or time off, and working overtime may be required on short notice.

Requirements

  • Meet all minimum qualifications of the Emergency Dispatcher Trainee position.
  • Successful completion of the District’s Emergency Dispatcher Trainee program.
  • Hold current certifications for Peace Officer Standards and Training Dispatcher, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, UCJIS User, CPR and other certifications the District deems necessary for the position.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all District policies, procedures, processes, responsibilities and tasks related to the position.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills and possess the appropriate level of technical aptitude to operate all equipment used in the job.
  • Ability to successfully complete a District approved training program.
  • Must be able to actively listen to multiple inputs, properly analyze information, and act accordingly; follow verbal and written instructions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatches for multiple public safety agencies, including law enforcement, fire, and EMS, at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Operates a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and other public safety communications computer software.
  • Operates telephone, radio, and paging systems.
  • Receives emergency and non-emergency calls and obtains essential information through structured, policy based interrogation.
  • Makes initial assessment of the nature and urgency of the call.
  • Makes decisions regarding agency resources and appropriate response.
  • Provides vital information to caller and responding units.
  • Communicates with public safety personnel via phone, radio, and in person.
  • Monitors the location and maintains accurate status of law enforcement, fire, and EMS units.
  • Queries multiple databases to obtain relevant information.
  • Enters data and performs transactions in local, state and federal databases.
  • Maintains current wrecker information and dispatches when requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality with information obtained through employment with the District.
  • Follows all District policies and operating procedures, and local, state and federal regulations applicable to the job.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
