About The Position

Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia with campuses in Franklin and Suffolk, and a center in Smithfield. The college offers a variety of programs including associate degrees, certificates, career studies certificates, workforce development services, and community classes. It also provides a dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies. The college is seeking a registered professional nurse to plan, teach, and evaluate students in clinical, lab, and simulation settings. This role involves providing quality instruction for Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Practical Nursing, and Nurse Aid students across various learning environments. The faculty member will be responsible for classroom content, assisting in lab and skills settings, coordinating and implementing simulation activities, and developing modules and orientations for clinical facilities. A key aspect of the role is to represent the nursing profession and the college positively and professionally, while supporting student success.

Responsibilities

Plan, teach, and evaluate students in clinical, lab, and simulation areas.
Provide quality instruction for ADN, Practical Nursing, and Nurse Aid students.
Be responsible for all classroom content.
Assist with lab and skills settings.
Coordinate, develop, and implement simulated activities.
Provide modules and orientation related to assigned clinical facilities.
Ensure a positive, professional representation of the nursing profession and college.
Maintain a supportive role for students.
Meet all clinical partner requirements.
Become familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing program and the Nursing Student Handbook.
Confer with the Lead Instructor/program dean regarding clinical rotation plans, agencies, and student groups.
Plan faculty orientation days with assigned agency personnel and spend designated time on assigned units.
Plan student orientation to the clinical area according to agency policy.
Select patient assignments and learning experiences according to classroom instruction and student needs.
Review clinical objectives with students.
Conduct pre- and post-clinical conferences.
Assist students in integrating and reinforcing learning by relating knowledge and skills to clinical experiences.
Provide supervision and guidance to students using the nursing process.
Serve as a role model and resource person.
Be accessible to students at all times in clinical.
Review, correct, and comment on care plans and other written assignments, returning them to students by the following week.
Evaluate and record student progress, conferring at the end of each rotation and midterm.
Maintain a climate conducive to learning.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and personnel of clinical agencies.
Maintain a record of student absences from clinical and report to the Lead Faculty/program dean.
Report student problems/concerns in the clinical setting to the Lead Faculty/program dean.
Assist with teaching skills in the campus Skills Laboratory and simulation lab.
Contribute to all activities related to the mission of the College and the Program.
