About The Position

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Coach provides instruction and supervision for student athletes, teaching basketball fundamentals and developing athletes’ skills and potential. The coach supports students’ learning, physical activity, health, and wellbeing while contributing to the efficiency of the school system and the educational opportunities available to each child. The coach works collaboratively with players, other coaches, parents, and fans, and follows the athletic policies and eligibility rules of the district and state. The position is seasonal, with contract days determined by the sport’s season. Salary and calendar year are established by the Board of Education. Performance is evaluated under district policy, state statute, and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

Iowa Coaching Certification.
Coaching experience.
Experience working with junior high and/or high school youth.
Active CPR certification.
Such alternatives to the listed qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

Know and follow athletic policies approved by the Iowa City Board of Education.
Build positive professional relationships with players, coaches, parents, and fans.
Monitor student-athletes’ academic records while following district and state eligibility rules.
Provide adequate supervision before, during, and after practices and competitions.
Teach basic basketball fundamentals and develop athletes toward their fullest potential, including skills beyond average ability.
Work cooperatively with other programs.
Work during summer, weekends, and other allowable times as needed to maintain the program.
Support the health and wellbeing of student athletes.
Maintain active CPR certification.
Perform additional duties as requested by administration or otherwise assigned.
