About The Position

The 7th Grade Head Football Coach at Deer Park School District #414 is responsible for providing knowledge, motivation, and leadership to students in football. The goal is to help students excel to their full potential while competing in an atmosphere that contributes to their overall education, including physical well-being, moral character, and social and mental development. This role involves instructing athletes on techniques, rules, and safety, developing and organizing practice programs, supervising athletes during practices and trips, and promoting the school's interscholastic program in harmony with the total school program. The coach is expected to set an example of high ethical and moral conduct, foster sportsmanship, promote a healthy lifestyle, and adhere to all safety laws and district policies. Communication with parents, assistant coaches, and the Athletic Director is also a key part of the role.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 or older
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season
  • Understand the activity/sport, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development
  • Previous applicable coaching experience required
  • Demonstrated successful experience building relationships with players, parents, and the community is required
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program
  • Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities
  • Ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the activity
  • Ability to develop players toward goals of improved skills, knowledge of the game, leadership, and commitment to the team
  • Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes regarding techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport
  • Develops and organizes practice program in conjunction with assistant coaches.
  • Schedules and conducts practices according to agreed-upon schedules.
  • Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times
  • Supervise athletes on buses on trips to other schools
  • Promotes the entire interscholastic program of the school and directs the program in harmony with the total school program
  • Sets an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct, including respecting and supporting contest officials
  • Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community
  • Promotes a healthy lifestyle to student athletes
  • Adheres to all safety laws and district policies
  • Follows the injuries, care, and prevention procedures of the Deer Park School District
  • Reports injuries to the Athletic Director
  • Supervises assistant coaches and communicates and monitors expectations
  • Recognizes and adheres to any athlete's health plans
  • Communicate with parents in a timely, proactive, and professional manner
