About The Position

Hemlock Public School District is seeking a 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach. This position requires successful coaching experience, preferably at the middle school level. While HPSD certified professional educators are desired, they are not required. HPSD certified staff will be given first consideration and an automatic interview. Alternate qualifications may be considered. Candidates must meet requirements for a background check and fingerprinting. The coach will be responsible for developing and using strategies to improve individual and team play, encouraging student participation, and working cooperatively with administration, staff, and other coaches. The salary will be in accordance with the negotiated district contract.

Requirements

  • Successful coaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Background that includes a high level of basketball knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices in coaching.
  • Experience working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Meet requirements for a background check and fingerprinting.
  • Willing to meet all Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) course requirements.
  • Obtain current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED usage.
  • Possess strong organizational, motivational, discipline and fundamental teaching skills.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Relate to and instruct student athletes in large groups, small groups, and individualized settings.
  • Develop and use strategies to improve individual and team play.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with administration and staff.
  • Ability to encourage student participation in the sport.
  • Effectively utilize classroom discipline strategies while providing positive reinforcement.
  • Work with other coaches by supporting and encouraging students to participate in other sports.
  • Able to communicate with players, parents, and other coaches.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure student success and a positive school climate.
