About The Position

The Head High School Football Coach is responsible for providing leadership, organization, supervision, and instruction for the district's football program. The coach is expected to develop student-athletes academically, athletically, socially, and emotionally while promoting sportsmanship, discipline, integrity, and school pride. The Head Football Coach oversees all aspects of the football program, including varsity, junior varsity, middle school alignment, offseason development, coaching staff supervision, community relations, fundraising, and compliance with all district, state, and athletic association regulations.

Requirements

  • Valid Mississippi Educator License (preferred if required by district policy)
  • Appropriate coaching certification
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Knowledge of football fundamentals and strategy
  • Knowledge of student-athlete safety and injury prevention
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive football program aligned from middle school through varsity.
  • Establish a positive culture emphasizing discipline, accountability, character, and academic success.
  • Develop annual and long-term goals for the football program.
  • Build a program focused on sustained competitive excellence.
  • Teach football fundamentals and advanced techniques.
  • Promote leadership, teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
  • Monitor academic performance and encourage student success.
  • Enforce eligibility requirements.
  • Encourage attendance and positive behavior throughout the school day.
  • Plan and conduct organized daily practices.
  • Develop offensive, defensive, and special teams strategies.
  • Supervise all contests, scrimmages, workouts, and team activities.
  • Ensure proper conditioning and injury prevention practices.
  • Maintain high expectations for athlete conduct.
  • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Assign coaching responsibilities.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings.
  • Promote consistency in coaching philosophy throughout the program.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for assistant coaches.
  • Develop and oversee: Strength and conditioning program, Speed and agility training, Summer workouts, Team camps, Youth football camps, Leadership development activities.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Ensure equipment is properly fitted and maintained.
  • Recommend purchases within budget.
  • Ensure locker rooms, practice fields, and facilities remain safe and organized.
  • Report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual football budget.
  • Manage program expenditures responsibly.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities in accordance with district policies.
  • Maintain financial accountability for all program funds.
  • Maintain positive communication with parents.
  • Promote strong relationships with alumni and community stakeholders.
  • Represent the district professionally at all events.
  • Support youth football initiatives to strengthen program development.
  • Ensure compliance with: District policies, Athletic department procedures, State athletic association rules, Eligibility requirements, Safety protocols, Student confidentiality laws.
  • Immediately report violations or concerns to administration.
  • Supervise students during travel.
  • Ensure student safety before, during, and after events.
  • Coordinate travel logistics with the athletic department.
  • Verify proper supervision at all team functions.
  • Monitor athletes' grades regularly.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Encourage tutoring and academic interventions.
  • Promote graduation and postsecondary readiness.
  • Model and teach: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Leadership, Accountability, Self-discipline, Sportsmanship.
  • Serve as a positive role model at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
  • Support all athletic programs within the district.
  • Foster a culture of respect and inclusion.
