About The Position

Dayton Leadership Academies is seeking a 6th Grade ELA Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons, creating a positive classroom culture, and assessing student progress to foster a relentless pursuit of excellence. Teachers are expected to utilize provided curriculum, align lesson plans with the academic program, plan interventions, and collaborate with grade-level teams. Responsibilities also include preparing and implementing Section 504 and IEP plans, sharing knowledge, creating effective learning experiences aligned with Ohio State Standards, implementing classroom management procedures, varying instructional techniques, providing differentiated instruction, integrating technology, promoting the proper use of school property, evaluating student needs through assessments, preparing students for tests, evaluating progress, maintaining high standards, communicating with families, contributing to school-wide goals, implementing policies, supervising students, participating in school events, maintaining records, serving on committees, coaching other teachers, monitoring internet use, and maintaining confidentiality. Additional requirements include professionalism, a positive attitude, effective communication, self-control, time management, conflict resolution, ability to lift and move supplies, performing activities requiring reaching/crouching/kneeling, maintaining attendance, and punctuality, and traveling to meetings.

  • Experience analyzing student assessment data, using it to inform instruction, and differentiating instruction to meet all students’ needs.
  • Highly effective writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective use of technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, online attendance and gradebooks).

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of classroom teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons.

  • Plan student interventions and differentiated instruction based on assessment data.

  • Help prepare and implement Section 504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for classroom students meeting eligibility requirements.
  • Share knowledge and resources to enhance the educational process.
  • Create effective and engaging learning experiences aligned to the Ohio State Standards.
  • Implement effective classroom management procedures.
  • Demonstrate successful implementation of teaching techniques and classroom management skills.
  • Vary instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
  • Provide differentiated instruction for all students in the class.
  • Integrate technology into instructional program and demonstrate professional use.
  • Promote the proper use and care of school property; take precautions to ensure student safety.
  • Evaluate the needs of students using formative and summative assessments, including assessments required by the school and state.
  • Prepare students for proficiency on interim and state tests and/or alternative assessments.
  • Evaluate student progress and assign grades using online grade book.
  • Maintain high standards and uphold the student conduct code.
  • Communicate with families regularly for positive recognition and support (e.g., telephone calls, messages, meetings, etc.); reinforce the Family Compact.
  • Contribute in meaningful ways to school-wide goals and student goals.
  • Implement school and district policies and procedures.
  • Supervise students at all times; supervise non-classroom activities when assigned in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
  • Participate in open houses, families conferences, awards ceremonies, and school events as directed.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports on time.
  • Serve on at least one school committee and/or coach/advise an extracurricular activity.
  • Coach other teachers on the team in areas of personal expertise; mentor a tutor or resident, as needed.
  • Monitor use of the Intra/Internet to ensure compliance with school guidelines.
  • Respect personal privacy; maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Perform other specific job-related duties as directed in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Skillfully manage individual, group and organizational interaction.
