About The Position
ACCEL Schools is hiring a 6th-8th Grade ELA/Writing Teacher at Cleveland Arts & Social Sciences Academy in Cleveland, Ohio. The role focuses on providing a superior education, bringing the curriculum to life, and creating a positive classroom environment that prioritizes student learning and social-emotional development. Cleveland Arts & Social Sciences Academy serves the Buckeye-Shaker community and surrounding neighborhoods. It is a public charter school offering a hands-on college-preparatory curriculum emphasizing the arts and humanities, small-group learning, educational technology, and specialty classes. The school serves grades K-8 and is part of ACCEL Schools, a network of public charter schools serving students throughout the United States.
Requirements
- Active and current Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to properly manage confidential information.
- Ability to supervise students of various ages in different school settings, including playgrounds and cafeterias.
- Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
- Experience working within an urban environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans, modifying them as needed during the school year.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
- Use research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom.
- Create a positive classroom environment for students to learn in.
- Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
- Communicate and meet with families regarding their child’s academic and social-emotional growth.
- Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
- Participate in planning and implementing non-instructional activities as needed.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
