About The Position

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver. Software Engineering develops the technology that enables the Driver to perceive its surroundings, make decisions, and safely transport people. The Driver Refinement Foundations team provides a common framework and expertise for post-training and heuristic hill climbing across the Planner organization, building platforms that help engineers improve driving behavior through data-driven and heuristic methods.

As an intern, you will work on projects with industry leaders and contribute to impactful work while developing your skills. This is a hybrid onsite internship. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the role is filled.

The expected hourly rate is $70 for Master's students and $85 for PhD students. Interns may participate in the company's benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Strong problem-solving and programming skills in Python and/or C++.
• Good understanding of JAX or PyTorch.
• Experience with model evaluation and understanding metrics.
• Strong software engineering principles.

Nice To Haves

• Some understanding of SQL; preferred but not required.
• Previous internship experience.
• PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mine and curate dataset samples from large corpora of driving data.
• Leverage large language models and world foundation models for reasoning, decision-making, and multimodal generation.
• Design and implement robust data-generation pipelines.
• Design and evaluate experiments for model training.
