About The Position

Waymo’s AI Foundations team develops machine learning solutions for open problems in autonomous driving, with the goal of safely operating Waymo vehicles in many cities and under all driving conditions. The team’s focus areas include reinforcement learning, learning from demonstration, generative modeling, Bayesian inference, hierarchical learning, and robust evaluation, and it also fosters collaborations with other research teams in Alphabet. The intern will design and conduct experiments on large-scale generative or foundation model training recipes, analyze evaluation metrics to identify performance bottlenecks and optimization strategies, and collaborate with researchers and engineers to integrate novel techniques into production training pipelines. The position is a hybrid onsite, full-time internship. The expected hourly rate is $85.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, AI, Robotics, or a related quantitative field.
Solid background in deep learning, transformer architectures, and generative modeling.
Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.

Nice To Haves

Publications at top-tier AI/ML conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ECCV, or ICCV.
Experience with distributed training across multi-node GPU/TPU clusters.
Familiarity with autonomous driving perception, prediction, or planning problems.

Responsibilities
