Google Sheet Job Search Query Builder: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cZGyzgTTCGwbpTJgK_p-tmt_jxCETUFDIXRPU3meuik/edit#gid=941771893
When it comes to job titles, you’d think think “Years of experience” would be a simple objective thing right? Well, apparently not… I looked at over 300 jobs in the Marketing career path and found that it was all over the map. Ideally, you could get a sense of the range of years required per job from the job title. The job titles are also all over the map. Companies use many variations to delineate the symbolic level. In marketing, the titles I found were:
Marketing Coordinator
Senior Marketing Coordinator
Marketing Associate
Senior Marketing Associate
Assistant Marketing Manager
Marketing Manager
Senior Marketing Manager
Marketing Specialist
Associate Director, Marketing
Senior Marketing Lead
Marketing Lead
Head of Marketing
Vice President of Marketing
For a job seeker, the TL;DR is you need to search for more titles than the ones you think you’re qualified for. If you think you’re role should be Marketing Manager, also search for Marketing Lead and even Senior Marketing Manager. We’ve created a simple Googe Sheet that will create all the variations for you and it also includes links to quickly run job searches. Below is a short YouTube video explaining how it works.
