About The Position
C.R. England is hiring a safety-conscious Yard Hostler to move, spot, pull, and position trailers within a yard. The role supports daily yard and dock operations, maintains accurate trailer movement records, and follows Company, customer, and site-specific safety procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position; employees must report fit for duty and comply with Company, customer, site, and applicable legal requirements regarding drugs, alcohol, impairment, testing, and safe work practices. The position is listed in Shafter, California, with an overnight shift from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Pay is $24.00 per hour. The description also refers to operations in Woodland, California.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old, or older if required by law or site policy.
- Have a valid state driver’s license; a CDL is not required unless separately stated.
- Have one or more years of experience as a yard hostler, yard jockey, trailer spotter, warehouse yard worker, or in similar equipment operation.
- Be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Comply with Company, customer, site, and applicable legal requirements regarding drugs, alcohol, impairment, testing, and safe work practices.
Responsibilities
- Operate yard tractors or yard goats to move trailers between dock doors, yard slots, staging areas, and storage locations.
- Couple, uncouple, inspect, and safely position trailers.
- Open, close, and secure trailer doors and required dock-safety equipment.
- Complete required inspections and promptly report defects, incidents, unsafe conditions, or yard hazards.
- Maintain accurate yard, trailer, and movement records.
- Follow Company, customer, and site safety rules, including PPE, traffic, speed, pedestrian, and equipment procedures.
- Meet KPI and Moves Per Hour (MPH) requirements set by Company leadership.
- Report fit for duty and comply with applicable requirements regarding drugs, alcohol, impairment, testing, and safe work practices.
