About The Position

The primary function of the Veterinary Technician in the Specialty Support Team is to provide exceptional care of both patients and clients by service as an extension of the veterinarian. Additionally, the Veterinary Technician - Anesthesia is expected to promote professional growth through education and learning opportunities. This position will report directly to the Support Team Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to always demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds from floor to table height
  • Excessive walking and standing, frequent squatting
  • Able to work at all clinic locations
  • Incur risk of injury from animals
  • Ability to work well under pressure and high levels of stress
  • Exposure to controlled, chemo-therapeutic, teratogenic, and mutagenic drugs
  • Exposure to radiation and anesthetic gases
  • Two years' client service experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Computer proficient - Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook; typing skills

Nice To Haves

  • A.A.S or B.S degree in Veterinary Technology, or similar field, and AVMA accredited a plus
  • Current certification, license, or registration as a Veterinary Technician a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist other departments when needed
  • Create and discuss medical plans with clients
  • Perform client discharges
  • Maintain composure and critical thinking in high stress situations
  • Train on assessing pain, providing adequate analgesia, and understand multimodal pain control
  • Perform complicated mathematical calculations (including, but not limited to CRIs and dilutions)
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of common veterinary drugs, their uses, and side effects (potentially multiple species)
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of common veterinary diseases
  • Clean and maintain specialty department and hospital
  • Knowledge of basic animal husbandry
  • Understand and ensure sterility
  • Ability to set-up, assist, and cleanup for surgical procedures
  • Assist with diagnostics including, but not limited to phlebotomy and cystocentesis
  • Demonstrate proper animal restraint
  • Recognize and report all abnormal diagnostic results to DVM
  • Provide effective and clear communication to clients if applicable
  • Document all client communication within AERCMN record keeping systems
  • Provide support for client's medical decisions free from judgment
  • Demonstrate compassion and empathy
  • Patient triage
  • Field incoming department calls
  • Order prescriptions through AERCMN pharmacy and outside pharmacies
  • Take down payment and final payment from client
  • Schedule appointments for your department
