About The Position

The Nurse Clinician utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific direct and indirect patient care and treatment management in the outpatient setting. Coordinates and oversees flow of patient appointments during daily operations. Serves as a resource to high-risk obstetrical patients and to referring and consulting physicians. Utilizes disease-specific knowledge base and the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) to provide whole person care in the outpatient environment. Ensures continuity of care across the continuum by coordinating and case managing the high risk pregnant patient, e.g., pre-admission and post hospitalization. Collaborates with other healthcare team members and participates in team conferences to coordinate implementation of treatment plan recommendations, scheduling appointments, etc. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Carries out research protocols for perinatal and maternal-fetal medicine. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum two years experience in labor and delivery clinical nursing required.
  • Minimum one year experience in ambulatory obstetrical setting required.
  • Minimum one year of the required experience shall have been in providing nursing care for patients with the diseases(s) or related condition(s) for which the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Diagnostic and Treatment Center is established.
  • Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality.
  • Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position.
  • Able to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
  • Able to perform technical patient care activities.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies.

  • Able to discern temperature variances through touch.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.

  • Certified Nurse Midwife preferred.
