About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Knowledge regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
• Current BLS upon hire
• Current ACLS and PALS within 60 days of hire.
• Current state license to practice as an LVN/LPN.

Responsibilities

• Effectively organizes time, equipment, and supplies.
• Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care.
• Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used per accepted standards of practice.
• Assists in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the preoperative area.
• Maintains order and cleanliness of preoperative area.
• Under the Supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient prior to admission
• Provides preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities.
• Describes the perioperative experience to the patient and/or their authorized representative member, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, and how their authorized representative will participate.
• Obtains pertinent patient records prior to patient’s arrival.
• Explains informed consent process for surgery and witnesses the informed consent when appropriate, patients’ rights/responsibilities, and preoperative/postoperative instructions.
• Obtains necessary signatures.
• Informs patient and/or their authorized representative about routine care and procedures related to the perioperative experience.
• Discusses all findings with anesthesiologist prior to anesthesiologist’s preoperative evaluation of patient.
• Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Start peripheral IVs.
• Administer pre-operative treatments and medications to patient per provider/anesthesia orders.
• Documents preoperative care per policy/procedure.
• Ensures that the patient’s chart is complete on day before surgery is scheduled.
