About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking Acute Care Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants for their Hospital Internal Medicine division. This role involves collaborating with physicians and other advanced practice providers to deliver high-quality hospital-based care to a diverse and complex patient population within a high-acuity, dynamic, and collaborative hospital setting. The patient population includes all areas of internal medicine, with a focus on Hematology/Oncology and Transplant Medicine. The NP/PA will partner with physicians to assess, diagnose, and treat patients, managing care in the Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care Units. Responsibilities include admissions, daily hospital visits, discharges, and consultations. The role operates on 12-hour shifts, including daytime, swing shifts, weekends, and holidays. The team is dedicated to Mayo Clinic’s three shields: patient care, education, and research, and seeks candidates interested in these areas. The NP/PA will demonstrate leadership through committee involvement, team projects, education, and research, and will actively contribute to practice improvement initiatives. Mayo Clinic Hospital is expanding, and the HIM division is growing, seeking dedicated NP/PAs for patient care and teaching.

Requirements

  • New Grads will NOT be considered at this time.
  • One to three years of inpatient clinical experience required.
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner ONLY: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner ONLY: Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a ACNP.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Physician Assistant: Current PA certification by NCCPA.
  • Physician Assistant: Registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date.
  • DEA registration required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital Internal Medicine experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality hospital-based care in collaboration with physicians and other NP PAs.
  • Care for a variety of clinically diverse and complex patients in a high acuity, dynamic and collaborative hospital setting.
  • Focus on patients in Hematology/Oncology and Transplant Medicine.
  • Partner with HIM physicians to assess, diagnose and treat patients.
  • Be responsible for patients in the Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care Units (PCU).
  • Complete admissions, daily hospital visits, discharges, and consultations.
  • Work 12-hour shifts, including daytime shifts, swing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrate leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, and research.
  • Actively seek to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to patient care and teaching.
