About The Position

San Luis Valley Health is seeking a full-time Maintenance Mechanic to join our EVS teams at RMC and CCH! This position involves performing service and repair work on various building systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and boilers. The role also includes general building maintenance, responding to security pages, assisting with facility needs, and participating in on-call duties and snow removal. The position requires adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, while promoting positive interpersonal relationships.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years building system experience, including working in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, boilers, HVAC and general building maintenance, required.
  • Acceptable driving record allowing individual to participate in Hospital vehicle insurance program, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Advanced knowledge of the "principles and theory" of electricity/electronics, plumbing, carpentry, boilers and HVAC systems.
  • Must have ability to diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment or systems, using trade accepted tools, techniques and test equipment.
  • Individuals assigned to this position must maintain the appropriate certification, licensure or registration as mandated by the specific governing agency, or be willing to obtain any required in the future needs of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in at least one trade, plumbing, electrical, carpentry or HVAC, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all service and repair work on electrical systems and controls to the level of experience achieved, in conformance with State and NEC standards.
  • Performs maintenance, installation, and repair of piping, plumbing fixtures, pressure testing, gas lines, appliances, valves, pumps, coils, and boiler equipment.
  • Assists with the operation and maintenance of the steam plant, including steam traps, steam leaks, and sight glasses, and participates in maintaining the water treatment program.
  • Performs maintenance or installation of HVAC systems, inspecting and operating building automation, heating systems, refrigeration equipment, coolers, freezers, ice machines, and thermostatic controls.
  • Enters and completes work orders and preventative maintenance tasks in a timely manner, reporting any delays to the Manager.
  • Ensures all documentation required by Local, State, and Federal agencies is completed accurately and promptly.
  • Functions as hospital security when security is not present, responding to pages for assistance and acting as a deterrent.
  • Assists with moving furniture, offices, trash and bio-hazard removal, and making or picking up deliveries.
  • May be assigned to different shifts temporarily due to staffing shortages or hospital emergencies.
  • Participates in the "Maintenance on Call" program and works holidays as assigned.
  • Is an active member in the Hospitals "snow removal plan", including shoveling snow, sanding/salting ice areas, and operating snow removal equipment.
  • Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, environmental and infection control, and safety.
  • Complies with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Performs work at all off-site clinics and buildings, as well as at CCH when required.
