About The Position
Avail Staffing is seeking experienced Outside Machinists to support the repair of U.S. Naval vessels in Hampton Roads. This is a hands-on role in ship repair for professionals with at least 3 years of experience working on ABS or NAVSEA-certified vessels.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 + years of shipyard experience on ABS/NAVSEA vessels
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain a DBIDS badge
- Willingness to work day shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed
Responsibilities
- Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align main propulsion machinery and auxiliary equipment, including compressors, condensers, pumps, and forced draft blowers.
- Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align cargo handling machinery, anchor gear, cranes, and davits.
- Remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align elevators, conveyors, firefighting systems, and more.
- Install and repair foundations for ship machinery and major components of ship armament.
- Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
- Use precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges, and assist with optical equipment.
- Work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to execute high-quality installations and repairs.
