About The Position

The Conventional Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to manufacture precision aerospace components within a fast-paced production environment. This role requires strict adherence to engineering specifications, aerospace quality standards, and safety protocols, while consistently maintaining tight tolerances and high repeatability. The Conventional Machinist works with a variety of materials and collaborates closely with engineering and quality teams to ensure all parts meet exacting performance and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of manual machining processes including turning, milling, honing, and grinding
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100
  • Understanding of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques
  • Knowledge of machining characteristics for a range of metals, including high-performance alloys
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong time management and ability to meet production deadlines
  • Consistency and discipline in maintaining repeatable machining processes
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3–7+ years of experience in manual machining, preferably in aerospace or high-precision environments
  • Strong proficiency in blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Experience working with tight tolerances and complex geometries
  • Ability to work from process sheets, routers, and detailed work instructions
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Candidates "must/may need" to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
  • Successful candidates must be able to secure Program Access approval

  • Technical certification in machining preferred

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate conventional/manual machines including manual lathes, manual mills (Bridgeport), honing machines, and grinding equipment
  • Interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements
  • Machine a variety of materials including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges
  • Maintain tight tolerances, often within ±0.0005" or tighter depending on part requirements
  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure compliance with aerospace standards
  • Deburr, polish, and finish parts to required specifications
  • Document work performed in accordance with AS9100 and customer traceability requirements
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and work area in a clean and safe condition
  • Collaborate with quality, engineering, and inspection teams to resolve machining or dimensional issues
  • Adhere to aerospace quality standards including AS9100 and customer-specific requirements
  • Ensure full traceability of materials, processes, and completed work
  • Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Follow all safety and regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards
