About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works on basic care for adult and geriatric patients' needs including, but not limited to comfort, hygiene, safety, and environmental cleanliness under the supervision of professional and practical nursing staff. This role involves completing documentation of patient-related tasks and performing all functions delegated by the nurse staff while adhering to policies, procedures, and scope of practice. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, appropriate work experience.
  • 1 year of Clinical Care experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to recognize problematic behaviors.
  • Ability to follow direction of the LPN/RN/Charge Nurse for the shift.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR (BLS)--Provider: American Heart Association.
  • CNA/PCT certification, Patient Care Technician/Assistant Certification (CPCT/A)--Nationally accredited and recognized by the State of Louisiana.

Nice To Haves

  • CNA or PCT experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI) from the Crisis Prevention Institute is required with 90 days of hire into an Emergency Room or Behavioral Health Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the nurse in the collection of data used for assessment of patients' conditions as assigned, including vital signs, weights, blood glucose monitoring, I&O, etc.
  • Assists with patients' hygiene, nutrition, and personal care needs.
  • Completes documentation of patient-related tasks.
  • Ensures patient safety by maintaining a safe environment under the direction of the nurse.
  • Communicates effectively about patient care and needs while on duty.
  • Supports team work of the unit in meeting patient needs.
  • Utilizes AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) when interacting with a patient or family.
  • Maintains a clean environment in patient care area.
  • Completes patient rounding in accordance with patient assignments and schedule to drive patient satisfaction and safety.
  • Seeks knowledge and opportunities for career development and in support of unit/department growth.
  • Accepts direction of the supervisor and LPN/RN to perform other duties as assigned and participates in LCMC's community events.
