About The Position

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience working as an electrician or in a similar craft as a helper, or an equivalent combination of work experience and training.
• Working knowledge of the electrical craft and developing knowledge of fabricating, installing, or maintaining electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment, and fixtures.
• Experience or knowledge of testing electrical systems with appropriate tools.
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Any licenses required for the jurisdiction where the work is performed, if applicable.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Must have all necessary tools, as identified in the Electrician Helper tool list.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to complete applicable pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include a criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move in confined, cluttered, or uneven areas; use hands to handle tools and controls; perform repetitive movements; and climb and balance on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.

• NCCER Construction Craft Laborer certification, NCCER Core Curriculum, or an equivalent craft training program.

Responsibilities

• Assist journeymen with planning, laying out, installing, testing, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment, and control systems.
• Learn and use appropriate hand and power tools to measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit; drill holes; pull wiring; and assist with lifting, positioning, and fastening wiring, conduit, motors, and other objects.
• Perform minor repairs, including replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
• Maintain tools and equipment, organize supplies and parts, and disassemble, repair, and reassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors.
• Load, transport, unload, and furnish electricians with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Clean work areas and restock supplies and materials as needed.
• Help install related items according to applicable plans and specifications and perform routine duties as directed by experienced craft workers.
• Participate in safety programs, pre-job work planning, safety discussions, site-specific training, and hazard identification; take corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
• Watch for and report hazards, accidents, and near misses; participate in investigations as needed; and use stop-work authority when necessary.
• Follow safety rules and warning devices, support lockout/tagout procedures, and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Communicate effectively, listen to coworkers’ suggestions and concerns, and coordinate work with other crafts and coworkers.
• Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities and produce work that meets plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including one-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladder diagrams, P&IDs, and loop diagrams; visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Assist journeymen in planning, laying out, diagramming, installing, and repairing electrical systems, and learn to perform layout independently.
• Learn to observe installed equipment and systems to identify hazards or the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement; report observed hazards to supervision.
• Examine and inspect field conditions, identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures, and take corrective action or report issues to supervision.
• If certified to operate equipment, operate and maintain construction equipment correctly, keep it in good working order, and complete daily equipment inspections.
• Comply with the Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
