About The Position

The Direct Support Professional provides supervision and guidance to the individuals with disabilities who reside in the group home by performing a variety of tasks in the areas of personal care, medication management, and crisis management. This role involves supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and potential co-occurring mental health disorders, which may include challenging behaviors. The position requires adherence to agency policies, regulations, and the implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISPs).

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or experience in the field
  • No criminal record
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Willingness to utilize/learn computers for daily documentation, training, etc.
  • Must maintain Medication Administration Certification.
  • Ability to physically lift 40-100 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to physically lift 100 pounds or more assisted.
  • Ability to reach above head and below knees.
  • Ability to endure repetitive motions with right and left hands.
  • Ability to reach out as to pull and push a wheelchair.
  • Ability to make twisting and bending motions at the waist.
  • Have good reaction response to protect personal space.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and guidance to individuals with disabilities in a group home setting.
  • Perform tasks related to personal care, including but not limited to tooth-brushing, toileting, bathing, clothing, and feeding.
  • Administer medications and maintain Medication Administration Certification.
  • Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and document outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Complete at least 24 hours of training annually, including mandatory training.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Assist with or perform housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, shopping, laundry, and mopping.
  • Act as a positive role model and advocate for individuals.
  • Provide opportunities for individuals to integrate into and be supported within their community.
  • Support individuals with their emotional issues, providing education and solutions.
  • Encourage individuals to be independent and teach them necessary skills.
  • Encourage and respect choices made by individuals.
  • Complete required documentation in the agency-approved electronic health record.
  • Identify work safety issues, injuries, and report them immediately.
  • Maintain and adhere to ethics of confidentiality.
  • Elevate incidents identified in the Incident Management Bulletin to a point person.
  • Use positive and respectful language with supervisors, co-workers, and individuals.
  • Utilize and model the everyday life philosophy in supporting individuals.
  • Perform any and all related tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
