About The Position

Porta Kleen is seeking a dependable Diesel Mechanic to join their team in Lancaster, OH. This role is crucial for maintaining and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and specialized equipment that support Porta Kleen's field operations. The Diesel Mechanic will ensure fleet reliability, safety, and performance through quality diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance, while also contributing to overall shop efficiency and team development. The position offers competitive pay ($26–$32/hr), great benefits, and year-round stability in a clean, organized shop environment with modern tools.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 4–5 years of diesel mechanic or fleet maintenance experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles and travel between service locations.
  • Experience working with commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, or service fleets in industrial or maintenance settings.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50–75 lbs.
  • Ability to perform frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to work at ground level or elevated positions.
  • Must stand and walk for extended periods (8–10 hour shifts).
  • Ability to work in shop environments with noise, vibration, grease, and outdoor weather exposure as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in diesel technology or mechanical repair preferred.
  • 5+ years of diesel mechanic or fleet maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to identify service needs early, reduce downtime, and extend equipment life.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using testing tools and procedures to restore vehicles to safe, reliable operation.
  • Repair and replace critical components, including brakes, tires, clutches, and related systems impacting performance.
  • Complete major repairs and overhauls, including engine and driveline work, following manufacturer and shop standards.
  • Service specialized sanitation equipment by inspecting and maintaining bolt-on systems used in Porta Kleen operations.
  • Maintain service records and accurately document repairs, reporting equipment status to supervisors.
  • Support shop productivity and team development by assisting and guiding junior mechanics to improve overall efficiency and quality.
