Software Engineer (Frontend), Core Product Experience

FrontSan Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

Front is the customer operations platform built for B2B complexity, keeping every team, tool, and customer conversation in sync so companies can scale without losing connection. Others handle simple interactions. Front handles the coordination and context behind complex B2B customer relationships. Over 9,000 companies, including Uber Freight, Navan, and Stripe, rely on Front because it's the only one that can run the operational layer that makes customer-facing work actually succeed. Backed by Sequoia Capital and Salesforce Ventures, Front has raised $204M from leading venture capital firms and independent investors including top executives at Atlassian, Okta, Qualtrics, Zoom, and PagerDuty. Front has received numerous Great Place to Work accolades, including Built In's 100 Best Midsize Places to Work in SF 2025, Top Places to Work by USA Today 2025, Y Combinator's list of Top Companies in 2023, #4 on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in the Bay Area™ ,Inc. Magazine's 2022 Best Workplaces list, and Forbes Best Startup Employers 2022 List. The Core Product Experience (CPX) team owns and elevates the heart of the Front application — the inbox and adjacent surfaces where frontline users triage and route conversations, collaborate with teammates, and craft high-quality replies. CPX's mission is to ensure that frontline and admin users can work more efficiently, with higher quality, and a happier day-to-day experience. The team's scope is broad, spanning everything from core inbox functionality (inboxes, messages, composer) to newer surfaces like calendar and contacts, and the team partners closely with Client Platform, AI, and other pods across Engineering. As Front continues to grow and invest in AI-powered experiences, CPX is at the center of the product strategy. We're looking for a frontend-focused Software Engineer with a deep product and design sensibility to join our CPX team. You'll work on the surfaces that 95% of all Front interactions pass through — the inbox, messages, and composer — building features that thousands of companies rely on every day to communicate with their customers. This isn't just a "build to spec" role. We want someone who thinks critically about what to build and why, who sweats the details of how an interaction feels, and who partners closely with Product and Design to ship work that is both technically excellent and delightful to use.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience building complex, production web applications with a focus on frontend engineering
  • Strong proficiency in modern frontend technologies — React, TypeScript, and state management patterns (e.g., Redux)
  • A genuine product mindset — you care deeply about why something is being built, not just how. You ask questions, push back on specs when needed, and think about the user first.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — you can articulate tradeoffs clearly and work effectively with cross-functional partners
  • Pragmatic problem-solving — you understand the tradeoffs between different engineering approaches and value shipping over perfection
  • A strong design sensibility — you have opinions about spacing, typography, transitions, and interaction patterns. You notice when something feels off and you fix it.
  • Experience translating designs into high-fidelity, responsive, and accessible UI

Nice To Haves

  • Bonus points for experience at a fast-growing B2B SaaS company and/or exposure to customer support or communication space

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver frontend features end-to-end. Take product specs and turn them into polished, performant features across Front's client-side codebase (Web, Desktop via Electron).
  • Champion the user experience. Advocate for the end user in every decision — from architecture to pixel-level detail. Push for interfaces that are fast, intuitive, and beautiful.
  • Partner deeply with Product and Design. Collaborate early and often with PMs and Designers to shape what gets built. Offer technical perspective on feasibility, tradeoffs, and creative solutions.
  • Raise the bar on code quality. Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code. Contribute to frontend best practices, component libraries, and performance standards.
  • Tackle complex UI challenges. Work on a real-time, multi-player application with rich text editing, keyboard-driven workflows, and high-performance demands.
  • Grow with the team. Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and contribute to a collaborative, low-ego engineering culture.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Equity (we are post-series D & backed by some of the best VCs in the US)
  • Private health insurance, including plan options at no cost to employees
  • Paid parental leave
  • Flexible time off policy
  • Flexibility to work from home Monday and Friday, unless posted as a fully remote role
  • Mental health support with Workplace Options
  • Family planning support with Maven
  • $100 per month Lifestyle Stipend to spend on fitness, health and wellness, and other activities
  • Wellness Days - Fronteers get an additional day off on months with no holidays
  • Winter Break - Our offices are closed from Christmas to New Year's Day!
