About The Position

This is a long-term contract role for a Senior z/OS Systems Administrator. The position is remote and requires expertise in IBM z/OS operating systems and related system software. The administrator will be responsible for installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of z/OS environments. A significant part of the role involves using SMP/E for software management and developing REXX scripts for automation. Experience with z/OSMF is also crucial. The role requires collaboration with various teams, participation in system initiatives, and maintaining documentation. Technical leadership and on-call support are expected.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with SMP/E for installation, maintenance, upgrades, PTFs, APARs, HOLDDATA processing, and management of IBM and third-party software.
  • Proficiency in analyzing SMP/E environments, zones, CSI datasets, SYSMODs, and maintenance requirements.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain REXX scripts for z/OS automation.
  • Experience identifying manual processes for REXX-based automation.
  • Experience administering and supporting IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF).
  • Proficiency in configuring and maintaining z/OSMF services, workflows, plugins, and system management functions.
  • Experience utilizing z/OSMF for system management, configuration, monitoring, and automation.
  • Proven ability in system problem determination, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex z/OS issues.
  • Experience monitoring system performance, availability, capacity, and overall system health.
  • Ability to work with operations, application, storage, network, security, and database teams.
  • Experience participating in system upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery testing, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Skill in maintaining system documentation, operating procedures, configuration standards, and technical runbooks.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Willingness to participate in production support and on-call activities.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support IBM z/OS operating systems and related system software.
  • Perform z/OS upgrades, maintenance, system modifications, and lifecycle management.
  • Provide advanced administration and troubleshooting of z/OS environments.
  • Use SMP/E extensively for installation, maintenance, upgrades, PTFs, APARs, HOLDDATA processing, and management of IBM and third-party software.
  • Analyze SMP/E environments, zones, CSI datasets, SYSMODs, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain REXX scripts to automate z/OS administration, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and operational processes.
  • Identify manual processes that can be improved through REXX-based automation.
  • Administer and support IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF).
  • Configure and maintain z/OSMF services, workflows, plugins, and system management functions.
  • Utilize z/OSMF for system management, configuration, monitoring, and automation.
  • Perform system problem determination, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex z/OS issues.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and overall system health.
  • Work with operations, application, storage, network, security, and database teams to resolve mainframe infrastructure issues.
