About The Position

The Financial Times is looking for a New York-based YouTube channel manager to join our award-winning podcast team. This is an exciting time to join the FT as it looks to expand its video-podcast offering and to reach new audiences with a multi-format approach. This is a fixed-term contract that extends until the end of 2026. You will report into the Global Head of Audio. You will be responsible for the FT’s vodcast channels starting with the FT’s flagship markets chat show Unhedged. Hosted by FT market gurus Katie Martin and Rob Armstrong, Unhedged is a twice-a-weekly, irreverent and punchy take on the latest markets news. Since launching in 2023, Unhedged has grown into one of our most successful podcasts with many of the pre-requisites for an engaging YouTube channel. The video element will launch in July. The YouTube channel manager will work closely with other production teams in the audio unit including on The Story of Money and other chat-based podcasts. This will include executive producers, the video editor, the podcast development manager, the producers. Our team runs on collaboration, honesty and flexibility. The role requires a deep knowledge of YouTube and how to optimise content for rapid growth. You will have a proven track record and experience of managing and optimising successful channels on the platform. You are a data cruncher and will interpret audience behaviour data into actionable insights for a busy production team.

Requirements

  • Has a proven track record of growing successful YouTube channels
  • A deep understanding for YouTube recommendation and browse behaviour
  • Loves to crunch numbers and can use data and analytics to inform content decisions for an audio and video production team
  • Can work to tight deadlines and can manage a full and varied workload
  • Is entrepreneurial and can shape and own a YouTube optimisation strategy for a busy team of producers and editors
  • Is a keen podcast and video podcast listener
  • Can prioritise under tight deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Develop thumbnail and title best practice across and work with producers on packaging strategies for each episode for each video-podcast
  • Developing and owning the YouTube schedule for each show and for uploading content, including shorts and sizzle reels, onto the platform
  • Manage publishing strategy and scheduling in consultation with the FT’s social media team
  • Manage relationship with YouTube’s partnership manager and to keep across changes to the platform
  • Analyse YouTube performance metrics across show and create actionable insights for podcast producers
  • Regularly test and iterate on different thumbnail and title strategies
  • Support channel launches with a focus on developing audiences and eventually encouraging subscriber behaviour
  • Identify opportunities for community engagement on YouTube and use analytics to understand how to gain subscribers and grow audiences
  • Keep up with industry trends and performance insights from other content creators to inform your growth strategy and recommendations to producers
