About The Position

Trellis works with young people, adults, families, and communities to unlock their potential and support their growth, focusing on generational change by providing a spectrum of services for people of all backgrounds, including those with complex needs. Their programs improve access to resources, develop family and community supports, and build people’s capacity to deal with life’s challenges, empowering them to move beyond systemic barriers and reach their full potential. Trellis Society seeks Youth Workers (Developmental Wellness Workers) to aid their 24/7 Residential and Shelter Programs. Support Workers help clients improve their quality of life and define what success looks like for them. The position involves supporting 24-hour, Recovery-Oriented, and Housing-Focused programs for youth and adults. This role is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, aiming to support young people—particularly those facing barriers to employment—by helping them gain the skills, experience, and support needed to successfully transition into the workforce.

Requirements

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person who has been granted refugee protection under Canadian law
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (international students are not eligible)
  • Degree or diploma in Human Services with recent and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn database systems.
  • Concise and clear communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience or in-depth understanding of Recovery-Oriented and Trauma Informed Practices.
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid and Level C CPR training.
  • Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Access to reliable vehicle with a $2M liability insurance and a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to clients who are ending their experience with homelessness.
  • Support clients in building life skills such as cooking, cleaning, employment, education, and budgeting.
  • Intervening and de-escalating crisis situations as they occur.
  • Utilize Recovery-Oriented and Trauma-Informed practices to mitigate client risks.
  • Act as a liaison between natural supports, families, social workers, doctors, and other professionals involved with clients.
  • Timely completion of case notes, safety planning, and Reportable Incidents reports.
  • Plan, implement, and participate in client-driven program activities.
  • Attend required training opportunities within the appropriate timeframe and monthly team meetings.
  • Provide transportation to and from appointments, programs, and activities, ensuring safety and punctuality.
  • Other duties as required.
