About The Position

The Youth Worker supports youth aged 13–17 facing complex challenges, including trauma, homelessness, and systemic barriers, within a trauma-informed, supportive housing environment. This role focuses on building trusting relationships, promoting safety and well-being, facilitating individualized care and case planning, and fostering life skills, recreation, and self-care. Youth Workers collaborate with care teams to support the holistic development—emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual—of each youth while encouraging family involvement.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care (CYC), Social Work, Human Services, or related field.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Suicide Intervention.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and vehicle.
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (min. $2 million liability), registration and 3-year drivers abstract.
  • Indigenous Awareness.
  • Medication Administration.
  • De-Escalation.
  • Trauma Informed Care.
  • Harm Reduction.
  • Food Safety.
  • WHMIS.
  • 3+ years’ experience supporting marginalized youth and vulnerable populations.
  • 1+ years’ experience managing youth case files and supporting individualized care plans.
  • Knowledge and experience in harm reduction, trauma-informed, resiliency, and solution-focused practices.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills, capable of remaining calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience supporting youth facing complex barriers, including mental health, substance use, poverty, trauma, LGBTQ2S+ identities, and newcomer/refugee experiences.
  • Proficient in MS Office and database applications.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individualized assessments, support youth goal-setting, advocate with external agencies, and maintain accurate case files and progress documentation.
  • Build trusting relationships using active listening and strength-based approaches, providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and guidance for safe, healthy decision-making.
  • Assist with daily routines, meals, medication administration, life skills development, recreational activities, and overall physical, emotional, and mental wellness.
  • Foster a home-like atmosphere with safety, stability, positive behavior modeling, and adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Facilitate hands-on activities, self-care opportunities, and educational or employment support to promote youth independence and holistic development.
  • Maintain positive relationships with families, natural supports, and community members while documenting interactions and encouraging family involvement.
  • Perform household maintenance, critical incident reporting, routine safety checks, and ensure the environment meets licensing and accreditation standards.
