About The Position

Durithunga Gunya – Life Without Barriers Education provides inclusive and flexible learning options for high school aged students who need support to re-engage with education. Our schools support young people to navigate their educational, social, and wellbeing needs, helping remove barriers so they can participate, learn, and thrive. At Durithunga Gunya – Life Without Barriers Education, young people are at the heart of their learning journey, empowered to explore their potential, build skills, and create meaningful pathways for their future. As a Youth Worker, you will play a key role in supporting young people to engage in learning and reach their potential. Working alongside teaching staff, you will promote wellbeing, build positive relationships and contribute to a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed school environment. Note: The proposed Life Without Barriers Education and Gunya Meta (Durithunga Gunya – LWB Education) school in Queensland is currently pending registration with the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board (NSSAB). Any appointment arising from this recruitment process is conditional upon the granting required regulatory approvals.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications in Education Support, Youth Work or similar and/or equivalent experience e.g. cultural and community knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and supporting young people with complex needs, their families and communities, to foster young people’s engagement in learning
  • High level communication skills including the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with young people, families and communities
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to provide and support a range of wellbeing and engagement programs and activities.
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence and ability to drive 12 seat vehicles.
  • Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

Responsibilities

  • Support student learning and engagement through in-class assistance, wellbeing programs, and individual learning plans.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment, supporting cultural identity and diversity.
  • Build positive relationships with young people and families to promote wellbeing and life skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, teams, and community agencies to provide integrated support.
  • Participate in school routines, activities, and professional development.
  • Maintain records and comply with child safety, organisational policies, and legal requirements.
