About The Position

Durithunga Gunya – Life Without Barriers Education provides inclusive and flexible learning options for high school aged students who need support to re-engage with education. Our schools support young people to navigate their educational, social, and wellbeing needs, helping remove barriers so they can participate, learn, and thrive. At Durithunga Gunya – Life Without Barriers Education, young people are at the heart of their learning journey, empowered to explore their potential, build skills, and create meaningful pathways for their future. In this role, you will deliver engaging, flexible learning for young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education. Working alongside Youth Workers, you'll create an inclusive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed environment where students can re-engage and thrive. You'll work with families, carers, and community agencies to advocate for students, support successful transitions, and maintain a safe, supportive, and compliant learning environment. Support for this role is provided by the Teaching Principal, Administration Officer, and the National LWB Education team.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education
  • Active registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (or ability to obtain)
  • Proven expertise in designing and delivering a variety of flexible learning options tailored to the diverse needs, characteristics, and learning styles of young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education.
  • Skilled in differentiating instruction and adapting approaches to support neurodivergent learners as needed.
  • High level communication skills including the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with young people, families and internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of QLD curriculum requirements
  • Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certification or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence and ability to drive 12 seat vehicles.
  • Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging learning programs, including integrated, applied, and accredited learning, literacy and numeracy support, and individual learning plans.
  • Create an inclusive, culturally responsive environment that supports wellbeing, engagement, and strong community connections.
  • Apply trauma-informed and therapeutic practices to manage behaviours and promote positive outcomes for young people.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with young people and their families, supporting participation, life skills, and cultural identity.
  • Work collaboratively with teams and external agencies to provide coordinated support and smooth transitions.
  • Maintain accurate records, meet compliance requirements, and actively contribute to professional development and a safe, supportive learning environment.
