About The Position

In this inaugural Teaching Principal position, we are seeking an experienced and inspiring educational leader to establish and lead our new Durithunga – Gunya - Life Without Barriers Education school initiative. As Teaching Principal, you will provide strategic and instructional leadership while remaining connected to teaching practice, creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports student wellbeing, growth, and achievement. You will lead teaching excellence, embed trauma-informed practices, develop and support staff, oversee day-to-day operations, and build strong partnerships with families, community leaders, and stakeholders to create meaningful outcomes for young people.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Education.
  • Active registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to manage a flexible learning school, delivering high-quality education and wellbeing programs for diverse students.
  • Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of QLD curriculum requirements.
  • Proven expertise in designing and delivering a variety of flexible learning options tailored to the diverse needs, characteristics, and learning styles of young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education.
  • Skilled in differentiating instruction and adapting approaches to support neurodivergent learners as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships across the school and community.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary staff to enhance teaching, learning, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan systems, ensure compliance and manage resources effectively and equitably.
  • Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certification or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence and ability to drive 12 seat vehicles.
  • Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support staff in creating a school culture which embeds the common ground practice of CARE and Ways of Working across the school
  • Lead and support staff to implement the LWB Education Teaching and Learning model
  • Utilise the First Framework and 8 Ways Pedagogy so that teaching and learning is decolonised and engaging for young people.
  • Plan and deliver engaging learning programs, including integrated, applied, and accredited learning, literacy and numeracy support, and individual learning plans
  • Create safe, inclusive environments where young people feel supported, heard, and empowered.
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with families, carers, Elders, cultural leaders, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead school improvement initiatives, change projects, and embed First Nations perspectives across learning and culture.
  • Support staff through supervision, feedback, and professional growth, while maintaining personal professional development.
  • Uphold child safety, trauma-informed practice, and all relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure the effective organisation and management of the school including stewardship of financial and operational resources, school staffing, and compliance with LWB Education and relevant State and Federal policies and procedures.
