Youth Services Internship

International Institute of New EnglandLowell, MA
Onsite

About The Position

The International Institute of New England (IINE) is offering a Fall 2026 Youth Services Internship for students, graduate students, and recent graduates interested in supporting refugee and immigrant populations. IINE has a long history of creating opportunities for success through resettlement, education, employment support, and pathways to citizenship. This unpaid internship includes an educational component for reflection and contextualization of the experience. Internships align with the US education semester system, typically running from mid-September to mid-December. While a commitment of at least 20 hours per week is preferred, exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. The internship is on-site, ideally for individuals near the Lowell area who can commute to the office. The IINE Youth Program serves refugee and immigrant youth ages 15-24, focusing on their personal, academic, and professional development. The program offers case management, individualized support, and workshops to build self-sufficiency, leadership, and community engagement. Services include after-school tutoring, job readiness training, digital and financial literacy, and creative programming. The program also assists clients with educational goals like HiSET and CNA certification, and connects them with mentoring and internship opportunities. The Youth Team provides culturally responsive case management, coordinates volunteers, and hosts events to empower young people. Programming is designed to meet youth at their current developmental stage in a safe, welcoming environment with translation services available. Workshops are often held after school to maximize engagement, and clients are encouraged to participate in shaping the services.
