About The Position

The Youth Program Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership of youth programming within community and recreation settings, ensuring the delivery of safe, structured, and high-quality services. This position oversees program execution, staff support, participant engagement, and compliance with established policies, procedures, and service standards. The role requires a strong operational leader who can balance program oversight with staff development, accountability, and a consistent focus on participant well-being. The Youth Program Supervisor provides direct oversight of youth staff, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance guidance, while holding team members accountable for operational expectations, safety practices, attendance, and service delivery standards. This position works in close partnership with the Manager to establish and reinforce procedures, communicate performance expectations, address operational concerns, and support corrective and disciplinary action when warranted. Through effective leadership, sound judgment, and clear communication, this role helps maintain a professional, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment for youth, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with children or youth in a supervisory, mentoring, recreation, childcare, or program leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of child development principles, youth engagement practices, safety protocols, and behavior management techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff, provide coaching and feedback, enforce expectations, and participate in corrective or disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with organizational policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification

  • Familiarity with community resources and youth development programs
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Recreation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in youth programming, childcare, recreation, mentoring, or a similar supervisory role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight of youth programs, activities, camps, and special events to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and support youth staff and applicable third-party vendors in alignment with departmental goals, policies, and service expectations.
  • Lead program operations during assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak programming periods, while serving as a visible and reliable leadership presence.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement age-appropriate programming that supports youth engagement, learning, teamwork, and positive social-emotional development.
  • Monitor program participation, staff performance, and participant behavior to ensure compliance with established standards and to support a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Hold team members accountable for adherence to procedures, attendance requirements, safety protocols, conduct expectations, and overall quality of service.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, instruction, and operational guidance to support employee effectiveness, consistency, and professional development.
  • Partner with the Manager to develop, implement, and communicate departmental procedures, performance expectations, corrective actions, and disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to attendance, incidents, staffing, program participation, inventory, and other operational records.
  • Identify operational issues, safety concerns, and service gaps, and take appropriate action to resolve or escalate matters in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with families, internal departments, community partners, and leadership to support program effectiveness and a positive participant experience.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and serve as a departmental point of contact in the absence of the Director.
