About The Position

The Youth Minister assists in managing the youth ministry program at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish under the direction of the Pastor. The role serves the Catholic mission of the Diocese of Tucson through conduct and instruction consistent with Roman Catholic teaching, and models Gospel values in ministry and personal life. Rooted in the Life Teen International model and spirituality, the Youth Minister accompanies teens in grades 0–12 as they grow in faith and become active members of the Church. The position cultivates an environment where teens encounter Jesus Christ through the Sacraments, authentic community, catechesis, and missionary discipleship. It includes planning and leading youth programming, fostering relationships and leadership, forming volunteers, supporting parents, and coordinating with parish and diocesan staff. The employee must respect and conduct themselves in accordance with the values, teachings, and morals of the Roman Catholic Church and Arizona state law.

Requirements

Working knowledge of and strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church; if baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills; self-starter, well-organized, and a team player.
Proficiency with information technology and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
Professional bearing and a clean, neat personal appearance.
Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least one year of experience as a youth minister in a Catholic environment.
Level 1 catechetical training.
Strong knowledge of Catholic theology and youth evangelization.
Strong leadership, organizational, and relational skills.
Must meet Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment and background screening requirements.
Ability to perform walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding activities.
Must respect and conduct themselves in accordance with the values, teachings, and morals of the Roman Catholic Church and Arizona state law.

Responsibilities

Cultivate an environment where teens encounter Jesus Christ through the Sacraments, community, catechesis, and missionary discipleship.
Plan and implement weekly Sunday Life Nights, annual retreats, service projects, and social events.
Coordinate youth participation in Sunday Mass.
Provide catechesis faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Create a discipleship pathway for teens from freshman through senior year.
Build mentoring relationships with teens and foster teen leadership development.
Encourage frequent participation in the Sacraments.
Support and collaborate with parents as the primary educators of their children in the faith.
Recruit, train, and lead adult Core Team members, providing ongoing spiritual formation and leadership development.
Ensure volunteers meet Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment requirements.
Maintain the youth ministry calendar, communications, and budget.
Coordinate logistics for events, retreats, and conferences.
Communicate through parish communication channels and social media.
Collaborate with parish clergy, staff, and diocesan offices.
Speak, act, and instruct consistently with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and model Gospel values.
Maintain confidentiality and complete required background screening.
Travel locally as required.
