About The Position

The Recreation, Engagement, Action Connection Hub (REACH) Program supports the successful settlement and integration of vulnerable, multi‑barrier newcomer youth and young adults aged 15–25. Using an integrated, holistic, and participant‑centred case management approach, the program supports newcomer youth to build the skills and capacity needed to navigate key areas of their lives, including education, employment, mental health, family relationships, and community connection. Term Full Time 35 hours weekly 12 Month Term (Parental Leave Coverage) The Youth Employment Specialist works delivers employment readiness and life skills workshops, recruits and screens program candidates, and provides one-on-one coaching to participants. Program workshops are designed to promote interactions with peers through topics such as, conflict resolution, communications skills, resumes, cover letter writing, interview skills and general employability skills. The goal is to help the participants understand and identify their own needs, values and barriers, and develop a support system for them to successfully get connected with the community. As such, this position requires a high level of skill as a facilitator. The Youth Employment Specialist creates employer connections for work experience and works closely with supervisors and managers to support participants during work experience. Additionally, this role will recruit and market the program in and around the community along with our other youth employment programs.

Requirements

  • Sound understanding of career development
  • Working knowledge of psychological theories such as Transtheoretical Model of Change, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Motivational Interviewing
  • Excellent computer skills and administrative capability

Responsibilities

  • Delivers workshop material tailored to participants’ learning styles, employment readiness or specialized needs
  • Supports the program and Youth Hub with tasks, activities and field trips
  • Completes case notes as per contract using Salesforce, ICARE, MS Teams, keeping track of all outside appointments and follow-ups, track attendance and progress towards program goals
  • Provides job search support to participants via: online platforms, phone, text, email and one to one meetings that are virtual or in-person
  • Provides referrals to other community support services as required
  • Coaches and supports participants effectively in a way that facilitates independence and self-sufficiency
  • Tailors and adjusts the work experience in order to meet the individual needs of the participants
  • Uses second language skills (if applicable) to help bridge the gap between participants with minimal English language skills
  • Carries out administrative tasks as assigned
  • Participate on committees and working groups as appropriate
  • Collaborates with employers regarding participant progress during their employment
  • Liaises with referring agencies and other professionals as required
  • Promotes and markets the program to community partners and deliver information sessions to recruit future participants
