STEM Youth Mentor (Murray)
About The Position
In partnership with AmeriCorps, STEM Youth Development Professionals (YDP) facilitate fun, engaging, and age-appropriate STEM-related activities for youth or teens from diverse backgrounds. Using our three priority outcomes - academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles - as a guide, Youth Development Professionals run programs, offer support, and ensure that every Club Member has an Optimal Club Experience that sets them up for lifelong success. Successful YDPs have a passion for serving others and contributing to the well-being of the community at large. Youth Development Professionals have the ability to connect with young people and offer supportive relationships. They are team players willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that Club Members are safe, recognized, and given the opportunity to learn new skills.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check, MVR check, and drug screening.
Nice To Haves
- Currently in school for a STEM-related field, or interest in STEM and educational programming for youth
- 21 years and over (to meet driving requirements), and be willing and able to drive 15-passenger vans
- Bilingual Spanish/English
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement daily group activities with a focus on STEM and academics with youth ages 8-12
- Transport youth in Club vehicles (school pick-ups, fieldtrips, etc.)
- Ensure engagement and promote consistent attendance of youth enrolled in activities
- Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance, and role modeling
- Provide active supervision, continually interacting with all members
- Submit regular lesson plans, attendance sheets, and other paperwork responsibilities
- Plan special events, such as guest speakers, performances, or field trips
- Abide by and carry out safety policies and procedures
- Attend local trainings
Benefits
- $1,565 Education Award available upon successful completion of AmeriCorps program (in May), and will be paid directly to school, or held in AmeriCorps portal until ready to use
