About The Position

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) is seeking dedicated Youth Mentors to join our team and make a significant impact on the lives of at-risk youth in our male group homes. This role involves working directly with adolescents who exhibit challenging behaviors, often stemming from abuse, neglect, and trauma. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and effective in providing a supportive, safe, and structured environment for these young males, guiding them towards positive development and independent living skills. The schedule for this role is 6am-2pm.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalency completion certification required.
Certified CPR/First Aide.
Certified in crisis intervention.
Valid Florida driver’s license and proof of active insurance.
Good organizational, written, and verbal skills.
Dependability, discretion, and good judgment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, co-workers, and the general public.
Ability to transport youth in agency van.
Ability to accompany youth on field trips and other recreational outings.
Background screenings required in accordance with Florida statutes.

Nice To Haves

Associates Degree in Human Service field preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth/at-risk youth in an organized/structured setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise adolescent residents, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Provide quality care, including assistance with daily routines such as meals, hygiene, and medication administration.
Transport residents to appointments and field trips.
Maintain the security and upkeep of the facility.
Plan, coordinate, and participate in recreational and social activities.
Communicate with supervisors and staff regarding resident behavior and needs.
Implement and monitor client case plans as directed.
Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
Supervise residents in completing chores and maintain a clean living environment.
Respond to and document critical incidents and emergencies.
Assist with youth intakes and discharges.
Conduct group meetings to discuss issues and address concerns.
Provide instruction on appropriate behaviors and independent living skills.
Observe and document adolescent behavior, development, and needs.
Maintain daily written records and logs.
Provide responsive service to external agencies and the public.
