About The Position

Parks & Recreation, Zach Gordon Youth Services is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Youth Development Leader at the Youth Center! We are looking for someone who cares deeply about the well-being of Juneau’s youth, thrives in a busy and sometimes chaotic youth center environment and is non-judgmental and welcoming to all. We are looking for someone who has a sense of humor, is creative and willing to come up with ideas for activities that youth will enjoy and someone who works well with other team members. The ZGYC team is a fun group! The workplace is flexible and creative. We encourage trying new things and laughing a lot. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Any combination of work experience or post-secondary education totaling six (6) months in any field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with youth and/or families impacted by trauma or coordinating patient referral or care services is preferred.
  • Two (2) courses from an accredited college in a human related field may substitute for experience.
  • Alaska Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Working directly with youth, organizing and leading activities that support youth in making healthy choices and meaningful connections.
  • Greeting patrons at the door and tracking attendance.
  • Working with partners to provide an array of activities and events.
  • Cooking and counseling.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with teens and youth in middle and elementary school.
  • Working with a team that is committed to Juneau’s youth and creating a more equitable community.
  • Doing some paperwork and data entry.
  • Making sure the youth center is safe for all.
  • Answering the phone and facilitating rentals of the facility from time to time.
  • Registers youth for sports and other programming.
  • Assists families in accessing scholarship information.
  • Hang up physical flyers for upcoming events and programs.
  • Answers phones and responds to various inquiries from the public.
  • Occasionally tables at public events to let the public know about youth services programming.
  • Speak with parents and guardians on the phone and in person about their child.
  • Outdoor yard maintenance of taking care of chickens, processing compost, looking after the garden.
  • Occasional special events or special projects.
