About The Position

This position is responsible for providing youth development services within a school-based outreach program in Washington County. The role involves teaching essential life skills, establishing collaborative relationships with external agencies, mentoring youth and families, and working with high-risk youth exhibiting complex behavioral problems. The associate/specialist will assess client needs, develop and implement treatment plans, conduct counseling sessions, and apply intervention techniques. Additionally, the role includes writing reports, potentially supervising staff, and making decisions consistent with Applied Behavior Analysis principles. Transporting youth and effective communication are also key aspects of the job. Passing the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment is required.

Requirements

• Two years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth, two years of full-time education or a combination of education and experience to equal two years (for Youth Development Associate).
• Four years of paid working experience with troubled or at-risk youth, four years of full-time education or a combination of education and experience to equal four years (for Youth Development Specialist).
• A valid Utah Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Teach problem solving, decision making, goal setting, and resiliency skills through quick interactive lessons in the school and community
• Establish collaborative relationships with outside agencies (Local Mental Health Authority, School District, Law Enforcement Agencies, DCFS, and Probation) to keep youth accountable and educate families about what resources are available in the community
• Mentor select youth and their families teaching skills such as positive-discipline, routine, responsibility, time management, rules and rewards, communication and creating wholesome traditions
• Oversees and works closely with high risk/volatile youth with complex behavioral problems.
• Assesses client physical, mental, social and behavioral needs.
• Develops and implements individualized treatment plans.
• Conducts individual, family, or group counseling sessions in accordance with the established treatment plan
• Identifies and applies appropriate security, safety, and control intervention techniques.
• Supervises youth with complex behavioral needs.
• Writes court reports, parole summaries, treatment plans and supervision standards.
• Leads or functionally supervises staff; delegates work assignments, monitors/reviews quality of work, schedules staff, provides technical assistance or training, provides input on performance appraisals, hiring and discipline.
• Makes decisions consistent with the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
• Transport youth
• Speaks clearly, concisely and effectively.
• Is able to listen to (and understand) information as presented verbally.
• Will need to be able to read and understand written information.
• Has passed the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment (coordinated by Juvenile Justice).
