The Youth Counselor supports youth experiencing mental health crises in community-based children’s crisis settings, helping them stabilize and transition to a long-term living option rather than living in a hospital, hotel, or detention center. The counselor implements interventions in each youth’s therapeutic support plan and participates in daily activities, including assisting with hygiene and other daily tasks, preparing meals, maintaining schedules, and supporting community outings and behavior management. The position provides person-centered, trauma-informed support and works with each client’s identified supports, including family members, guardians, and workers. The counselor helps youth identify triggers and use coping strategies, leads and teaches DBT groups, participates in recreation and household activities, and supports clients’ healthcare needs, medication administration, documentation, and safety. The role also involves maintaining the home, following company and licensing requirements, collaborating with coworkers and supervisors, and cross-training at multiple crisis programs. The schedule is seven days on and seven days off, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. The shift is asleep from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and awake from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. The listed base rate is $25.00 per hour, with a $2.00-per-hour weekend differential for hours between Friday at 10 p.m. and Sunday at 10 p.m., and a $1.00-per-hour overnight differential for hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sleep hours are paid at $12.41 per hour when assigned. A $1,500 retention bonus is offered for full-time employees, paid over one year.
