About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Yard Worker performs a variety of yard activities, including operating a forklift to move products and materials throughout the yard, and provides customer service. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work is performed primarily in an outdoor yard environment, subject to variations in temperature and weather, equipment noise, and dust. The role requires frequent lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying of up to 80 pounds. The employee must be able to climb into and out of forklift equipment, twist the torso for 360-degree visibility, and use the arms to operate controls. Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), and six months of experience performing these or similar tasks; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
• OSHA Forklift Certification.
• Ability to operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures when performing tasks.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of company products and inventory available at the work location.
• Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and understand invoices and requisitions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to physically operate forklift equipment, including climbing into and out of the cab, twisting the torso for 360-degree visibility, and using the arms to operate controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in locating and loading products.
• Review materials loaded against invoices or requisitions, and complete and route paperwork appropriately.
• Move products and materials throughout the yard, ensuring they are placed in the correct areas.
• Ensure products and materials are adequately stocked in inventory at all times.
• Perform routine yard cleanup.
• Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers; attend safety meetings as required and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
