About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Yard Worker performs a variety of yard activities, including operating a forklift to move products and materials throughout the yard, and provides customer service. The role assists customers with locating and loading products, checks loaded materials against invoices or requisitions, and routes paperwork appropriately. It also involves placing materials in the correct yard areas, keeping inventory well stocked, routine yard cleanup, and following safety procedures to prevent injuries. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and six months of experience performing these or similar tasks, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
• OSHA Forklift Certification.
• Ability to operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures relevant to assigned tasks.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of company products and inventory at the work location.
• Ability to understand and carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions using common sense.
• Ability to read and understand invoices and requisitions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to physically operate forklift equipment, including climbing into and out of the cab, twisting the torso for 360-degree visibility, and using arms to operate controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in locating and loading products.
• Review loaded materials against invoices or requisitions and complete and route paperwork appropriately.
• Move products and materials throughout the yard and place them in the correct areas.
• Ensure products and materials are well stocked in inventory.
• Perform routine cleanup of the yard.
• Follow safety procedures and practices, attend safety meetings as required, and potentially recommend safety improvements.
• Operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment.
